FAQs

What does the SECG do?

The purpose of SECG is to provide a professional home to local coaches who are seeking professional development, support and networking opportunities.

  • There is a programme of events, webinars and network meetings
  • There are a range of special interest groups, including walk with coaches and supervision
  • There are mentoring opportunities including Business Development, Co-coaching and New to Coaching
  • There are a range of resources available

When did SECG begin?

We began as a smaller Guildford Coaches Group in 2007, founded by Kim Gregory and Angela O’Connell. We have grown to cover the whole of the South East and beyond and we formally changed our name in 2022.

Who can join SECG?

We welcome coaches from all perspectives: Our membership includes new coaches, some very well-established coaches, some accredited and others not.

I am new to coaching and have no qualifications, can I join?

Yes, we welcome those who are new to coaching. Of particular interest may be our New to Coaching special interest group.

How can I join?

To find out more about membership or to ask to join, please email admin@southeastcoaching.org with your contact details. A member of the Board will then give you a call.

How much is membership?

For 2022 membership there will be an annual fee of £50. The benefits are:

1. £10 discount on published rate for in person morning events from the date your membership is paid.

2. Free access to our annual members only webinar series.

3. Access to special interest groups:

  • Supervision
  • Co-coaching
  • New to coaching
  • Business development

4. Your profile on our website.

5. ICF CCEU certificates for applicable events attended.

6. Access to a range of networking events.

7. A member’s only Christmas lunch (there will be an additional cost for this).

How is SECG managed?

The group is managed by a Board who are all volunteers. Do let us know if you would like to help in any way.

Does the group provide supervision?

There are supervision special interest groups that start periodically. Paid members are welcome to join one of these at no additional cost.

Where can l find out about events?

You will find a list of meetings and events, in date order, on the SECG Website, under Events.

Can I be on your mailing list for events if I am not a member?

Yes.

Can non-members attend the events?

Many of our events are open to non-members, but some are exclusive to members. You can see this on our Events page. There are many other benefits to membership including special interest groups and resources. Please consider that we are a membership group and we rely on this to be able to continue to provide our services. If you find you enjoy our community, we would love you to join and be a part of it.

What time do events start and close?

Our in person events are often held in Guildford Trinity Centre and these events start at 9.30am with networking from 9am. We aim to finish by 12pm or 12.30pm.

Where are the in person events held?

Venues will be shown on the Events listing on the website. In person events are often held at The Trinity Centre, Trinity Churchyard, Guildford, GU1 3RR. You will find a small map and photo on the About Us page.

How do I find Trinity Centre?

If you are driving, the closest car park is the Castle car park on Sydenham Rd, GU1 3SR. On leaving the car park through the pedestrian exit, turn left up the hill, walk to the end of the building, and after about 10 metres, turn left on the path on the far side of the access road. This leads into Trinity Churchyard. Follow the path round to the right after 20 metres, past the Royal Oak pub, then left down towards the church. The Trinity Centre is on the left about 30 metres down.

If you are walking, the Trinity Centre is at the top of Guildford High Street. As you walk up the hill, you will see Sainsburys on the right hand side, then a large Church. You will then see a pedestrian access on the right. Walk up the steps and you will see Trinity Centre (glass doors) ahead of you on your left.

How do I book in to attend an event?

Go to our Events page and click onto the title of the event you want to attend. There will be an Eventbrite link towards the end of the event information. On clicking this link you will be taken to an external website, Eventbrite, which is used to manage all our SECG events. Members have a discount code that they can use.

Can attending an event support my continuing professional development?

We offer Continuing Coach Education Certificates (CCEUs) from the International Coach Federation (ICF) at most events. These are given to members at the end of the meeting.

Events run by SECG Members

We are delighted to support coaching and business events being run by our members. We can include information on our website, LinkedIn group and Facebook page.
